JUNIOR GOLF

In 2010 after many years of inactivity, junior golf was revived by two passionate golfers, Alan Fanning and Mitchell Banks with three juniors attending a Sunday morning junior program. In a relatively short time it has grown to become the biggest junior club in the NT, with 35 registered MYGolf members in 2024.

The Gove Country Golf Club was the first NT facility to implement the GA Mygolf Program back in 2011, and this has historically been a recipe for success in growing the game of golf for young people and families in the NE Arnhem Land region.

This program is being delivered by Golf Australia National Program Deliverers and life members Esther and Jonetani Rika, assisted also by Alex Ellenden. In addition, other pathway programs being delivered include the Get into Golf and the Australian Golf Foundation (AGF) Girls Golf Scholarship Programs.

To encourage greater participation, the Gove Country Golf Club introduced the Youth On Course membership which is $1 ea time to play on course. The juniors are the future of all clubs and a healthy junior program supported by its members will bring success at all levels.

We offer an inclusive junior golf pathway program that helps young people to develop golf at all levels. Golf is played on a 9-hole course and driving range in NE Arnhem Land. The program is run by National Program Deliverers Esther and Jonetani Rika and Alex Ellenden, and is supported by Cairns based PGA Coach Graham Bolton. • AGF Girls Golf Scholarship Program:

In 2025, Gove Country GC is into its fifth year of participating in the Australian Golf Foundation Girls Golf Scholarship Program. This successful pathway program is helping girls and their families overcome the challenges of living remotely and is giving them the opportunity to excel and engage in golf in a more purposeful way.
